DLR and EORC contibutions to the ifo Conference on Understanding Socio-Economic Inequalities with Novel Data and Methods – Day #1

DLR and EORC have co-organized the ifo Conference on “Understanding Socio-Economic Inequalities with Novel Data and Methods” in Munich on February 22 and 23. This interdisciplinary conference brings together researchers from various disciplines to present and discuss their ongoing works on inequalities in outcomes such as education, health, occupation, income, or wealth. The conference is related to our international project “INEQUALITREES – A Novel Look at Socio-Economic Inequalities using Machine Learning Techniques and Integrated Data Sources”, which is funded by the VW Foundation.

 

On day 1, DLR and EORC contributed the following presentations:

  • Andrea Sofia Garcia de León presented our collaborative research with the ifo Institute Munich and the Sustainable Development Solutions Network from Bolivia on “Modeling spatio-temporal dynamics of poverty in Bolivian municipalities using satellite-based nighttime light imagery and electricity consumption data”.
  • Oana Garbasevschi presented our collaborative research with the ifo Institute Munich, the University of Trento and the University of Milan on “Spatial Distribution of Income Inequality and Its Determinants in Italy and Germany” in a session moderated by Hannes Taubenböck on “Regional Inequality”.  
  • Matthias Weigand presented our works on “Analyzing neighborhood public green space inequality on a national scale” in the session moderated by Michael Wurm on “High-resolution Spatial Data”.
  • Hannes Taubenböck gave a dinner speech on “Understanding Socio-Economic Inequalities with Novel Data and Methods” reflecting on inequality, poverty and wealth.
